For reasons that boil down to "it seemed like a good idea at the time" Vern has always been drawn to difficult and out of the ordinary projects: getting his pilot's license at age 17; earning a PhD in Latin and Classical Greek; teaching Greek history in Greece to Greeks; switching careers from Latin teacher to computer guru; and running a dozen marathons.
All those odd and challenging endeavors seem pale next to the big one - earning a Utility title with his Novice A dog Molly, the Aussie princess, aka the "piece of work". Vern is still recovering from that one, Molly is rather pleased with herself and doing just fine.
Vern lives and trains in Fort Wayne, Indiana with his wife Becky and their two Aussies, Molly the Utility diva and Riker the BDX (Bed Dog Excellent). He is Director of Technology at Canterbury School and is one of the oganizers of the Fort Wayne Linux Users Group, dedicated to freeing users from viruses, Windows crashes, and high software costs, one computer at a time. In his free time Vern can usually be found slouched at his desk, fiddling with something related to computers, dogs or both.
