| I learned to enjoy dogs from the time I was twelve when I would roam the hills of San Rafael, California, with a Pointer named Jim. He would chase the jack rabbits that popped out of their lairs as we hiked across the rolling hills. Jim could never catch the rabbits but would sure give them a good chase. I've had a dog in my life most of my years, but it was Saru, a Bostonian Great Dane, that got me interested in Obedience. After obedience class, and obtaining the I.L.P. I entered Saru in an Obedience Trial. Saru qualified once in Novice A but a few months later developed bloat and passed away. My next dog was a Golden Retriever named RJubi, that achieved the Utility title. Jubi's UD inspired me to become an AKC Obedience Judge and was approved in 1992. Subsequently I became interested in doing Agility with my new Golden Retriever, RJason. Five years later he achieved the Master Agility Championship and became MACH Sunntach's Dream Chaser CDX and the first dog in Santa Barbara county to earn the title. I earned a BA in Music and a MA in Education from Pepperdine University. I served eight years in the United States Air Force, and then returned to college and obtained a lifetime elementary teaching credential from the state of California. I am retired after teaching thirty years and am now composing and publishing poetry about dogs in performance. I have published one book of poetry, THE DOG, which consists of fourteen doggie love, four seasonal, twenty-six Agility, and twenty-three Obedience poems. I am a member of the Dog Writer's Association of America (DWAA) and have had many of my poems published in Front and Finish plus numerous other periodicals and club newsletters. Our household currently consists of my partner and soul mate, Penny Gott, my Golden Retriever RJason, and our Belgian Tervuren, RFoxy Lady, (CH Sidekick's Foxy Lady of Elan CDX MX MXJ). |
