| At the age of four, I already owned five dogs--all at one time, mind you. They all belonged to different neighbors on our street. But according to my parents, I counted them as my personal property and could rap out their names faster than I could grab an ice cream cone. Things changed when I was five and my family moved to the Philippines. Forced to leave my beloved pack behind in western Kansas, I began my relentless campaign for a puppy. The great conquest came when my dad brought home a sassy little American Eskimo puppy. Actually, I'm not sure if it was my parents or myself who was truly conquered. They gave in to my pleading, but I gave up my heart to dogs. Today, I really do own five dogs--the two Eskies, Chai and Kita; Mesa, an Australian Shepherd; Storme, a probably Shepherd/Caanan Dog cross; and Admiral Wings, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever with a possible dash of Brittany. While both my nine year old boys, Wings and Chai, play with me at rally, Storme and Mesa work at obedience and agility along with some rally for good measure. I have a degree in Political Science from UMKC, and I am currently working on a second major in Journalism. After my globetrotting I have returned to Kansas and live at Goldengreene, a rural property that I like to call a "country estate," which I share with the dogs, two goats, a cat and a black bear hamster. |
