I titled my first dog in rally, my veteran Lab, in 2005 when he was almost 10 years old. Despite ring nerves, clumsiness, and the inability to sometimes remember my right from my left, I was hooked on dog sports. I consider rally an excellent sport for our veteran dogs and our novice handlers, as well as a great venue for youngsters just beginning (both human and canine).

As a novice competitor myself, I write a Front & Finish column about rally and obedience from the novice's perspective. I touch on subjects as diverse as sportsmanship to equipment to footwork.

Currently I have two Labrador Retrievers and compete in rally, obedience, and the breed ring. I have titled one to the Rally Excellent and Companion Dog titles; the other is just beginning her career in rally, obedience, and tracking.

I train at Ironclad K9 Obedience in Woodstock, Georgia. I am a member of the Kennesaw Kennel Club, an all-breed club, and the Greater Atlanta Labrador Retriever Club.

Professionally, I am a freelance writer specializing in all dog topics from sports to health issues. I am a member of the Dog Writers Association of America and have received a Maxwell Award nomination for my work. I also proudly serve on the Front & Finish magazine editorial advisory committee.
