When I was 9 years old, I joined 4-H so I could learn to train my dog, a geriatric beagle. My mom said, "Okay, but you're going to learn to sew and cook, too!" That was in 1975 and to this day I can't sew on a button without putting the paramedics on stand-by first. You gotta have your priorities. My dogs include retired Sheltie, Jesse (U-UD Hanson's Third Edition, UDX), who sleeps most of the time and specializes in surprise back attacks; Sheltie, Connor (OTCH U-CDX U-AG1 Sunazie's Black Diamond UDX OA NAJ), who continues to reinvent the sport to suit himself, and a  Belgian Tervuren puppy, Jamie (Ariel's Escape Through Time), who recently installed a dog door all by himself and is now looking for future home improvement projects. My husband Jeff, suspects I am not quite as normal as he would prefer, but has learned to just be patient and he'll get his supper eventually.Memberships include the Iowa City Dog Obedience Club, the Iowa City Shetland Sheepdog Club, and the American Belgian Tervuren Club. I also teach the county 4-H dog project. |
