In Memoriam ~ Earl Wears
April 27, 1934 – February 14, 2021
Earl Wears, 86, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at his home in Des Moines. Funeral services for Earl was held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 22, 2021 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. A visitation was held prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment with military honors was at the Palmyra Cemetery.
Earl was born April 27, 1934 in West Virginia to Ernest and Sallie (Siders) Wears. Earl married his wife Mamie Fox on June 29, 1958. Earl had a deep love of family, kids, grand kids, great granddaughters and friends. He loved dogs! Earl was incredibly active in the Des Moines Obedience Training Club and the Des Moines Shetland Sheepdog Club. He participated in agility for dogs, was an avid and talented gardener. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing in Canada, deer hunting with his crossbow and making trophies for the dog clubs. Earl was one of the University of Iowa’s biggest sports fans.
Earl is survived by his daughter Tonia (Wears) Jones; grandchildren, Heather Jones, Billy Wears, Trevor Jones, Stacey Wears and Christina Wears; great granddaughters, Taylor Carver, Lucille Winebrenner-Jones, Isabella Lincoln, Aubrey Wears, Gwendolyn Winebrenner-Jones, Makayla Lincoln, Gracie Lincoln and Paisley Wears. Earl is also survived by his companion Shirlee Jacobson. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mamie, his son Timothy; and his sisters, Bertie (Wears) Woodard and Anna Lee (Wears) Smith.
