How I Began Teaching The Directed Jumping Exercise
Part II

Last month’s Playing By The Rules focused on an in-depth explanation of how to begin teaching directed jumping for the Utility Directed Jumping Exercise.

This month the following video provides a full demonstration of that same progression, giving the process a clearer, cleaner visual explanation.

PLEASE NOTE: the go-out portion of the Directed Jumping Exercise is taught separately and is NOT yet incorporated into the directed jumping part itself–at least not until each skill is firmly understood and being performed satisfactorily.

In general, it is very important that every part of every exercise be taught as a separate skill so that your canine buddy can have a strong foundation and not later become confused. Too, because each skill is a separate learned behavior, should an ‘issue’ surface, the problem area is easier to isolate and ‘fix’.

Wishing you all the best in teamwork!
